Should You Relocate for a New Job? Personal Issues

img 1Expansion and growth is part of everyone’s career. In fact, it’s everyone’s right to look for a better job. If you have managed to get a job that you deem better than your current, how far are you willing to go for it? Are you willing to go as far as undertaking relocation? All of a sudden you will start feeling uncomfortable but that’s okay, because many thoughts will immediately start popping up in your head. Some will be professional and some personal. In this article we will be looking at personal issues that arise.

1) “Do I really have to relocate?” is the first question you should ask yourself. This is a comparison of your new job vs. your old job. If the new job really means so much to you and your family, then deciding to relocate is more favorable.

2) Another question will be “what about my family?”, “what about their schooling?”, “what about our friends?” and “what about our social lives?” Sometimes these things will be too much to give up for a new job.

3) Again, ask yourself, “How are the kids going to react?” If the kids are fine with it, then it becomes really easy to move.

4) Got a working spouse? If so, then ask yourself, “what about his/her job?” This barrier is most common in working couples. Sometimes, you will have to fore-go a job to make your husband/wife happy.
